NEW DELHI: The price of Toyota Kirloskar Motors’ hatchback Etios Liva will be announced after the Budget 2011-12 announcements around February-March. It was announced by Toyota Kirloskar Motors on Friday.

The company also plans to increase its head count by hiring additional 2,000 employees by mid-2011. It is important as Toyota moves into the mass segment. The mass segment represents 70 per cent of the total car sales in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motors has a total of around 4,650 employees in India.

Toyota Etios Liva, the new small car would be launched only by April 2011. Toyota Kirloskar Motors also plans to start making engines in India itself by 2012 and transmissions by 2013, which will bring up the localisation content of the Etios from 70 per cent to about 90 per cent.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors (TKM), the Indian division of Japan-based Toyota, launched its entry-level sedan (Toyota Etios) in India on December 1, 2010. The car has been developed to target the masses in the developing economies like India. With a very competitive price tag, Toyota Etios aims to eat into the sales of Mahindra Renault Logan, Swift Dzire and Tata Indigo.

Etios has already received 3,077 orders and the deliveries would start from January 2011.

According to TKM, “By the end of March next year or April beginning we will launch the Etios Liva and deliveries will start from April. We will take a call on pricing after the Budget,” .

Toyota Etios Liva is first small family car from Toyota India with new design, better engine performance, improved mileage and safety features @ attractive price in India. Toyota Liva will compete with Maruti Swift, Hyundai i10 and Ford Figo at similar price point.
